Captions and sidebars explain the images and provide more details. Some sidebars also offer sketches of acclaimed scientists in the various fields or the details of particular experiments. There are two timelines in the back of each book; one lists dates related to the scientific background of the topic and the other covers the political and social background. A list of websites and organizations to contact for further information, as well as recommended reading are included.
