Forced into poverty by the death of her father in 1871, Rebecca Williams decides her best option is to leave her Boston home and accept a marriage proposal from Daniel Thornton, a dashing Australian. However, after she travels halfway around the world and struggles to adjust to her new life on a cattle ranch in the remote Outback, Rebecca finds that she may have taken on more than she bargained for--especially when she realizes that she is not in love with her new husband. Daniel tries to make his bride feel welcome and hopes that someday she will return his affection. Rebecca wants to do the right thing, but her inability to submit to her domineering father-in-law, whose loathing for her grows stronger every day, may prove her undoing. The debut title in Leon's new "Queensland Chronicles" series is a first-rate historical romance and should please fans of this genre. Recommended for CF and romance collections. Leon, author of several historical romance series ("Sowers' Trilogy," "Northern Lights"), lives in Oregon.
